The association was formed in 1933 by those working in the electrical industry within the Ipswich Corporation electricity supply area. Ipswich, in those days, had its own Electrical Generating Station.
The members were drawn from and were the representatives of:-
Ipswich Borough Electrical Department,
Local contractors,
Industrial electrical engineers,
Electrical manufacturers,
Electrical Factors (wholesale distributors).
You can read a more detailed discourse on the association's History page.
The original purpose was to promote the use of electricity although other things were sometimes discussed.
The objects of the association are: to further the interests of and engender the spirit of friendship and co-operation between all members and sections of the Electrical Industry and to support relevant charitable activities; to promote and encourage the use and knowledge of electricity and to provide facilities for members to meet and discuss matters of interest.
Today we are a self funded voluntary organisation, one of the few remaining in the country, with its members who are interested in the electrical world, working or retired and still from all branches of the electrical industry.
We also support some local and national charities and present prizes to electrical students from the local colleges.
The association meets usually on the third Monday evening of the Autumn, Winter and Spring months, holding a ordinary meeting before having a buffet and then a talk.
We currently meet at Ipswich Sports Club Henley Road Ipswich. See how to find us on the Contact page
We always welcome new members and if you are interested in joining us please see the Membership page for more details.
